Katir, García Romo, Novales and Rojo will say goodbye to the year in the San Silvestre Vallecana

MADRID, 26 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Mohamed Katir, Mario García Romo, Tariku Novales and Yago Rojo are some of the first Spanish athletes confirmed by the organization of the Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre Vallecana that will be held in the streets of Madrid on December 31.

Of these names, Katir stands out, who will repeat again in this traditional event with which athletics says goodbye to the year. The Murcian, who has a best time in the race of 27:19, put an end to the drought of Spanish victories that dated back to 2003 in 2021 and last year he was on the verge of repeating it, losing in a nice duel with the Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei .

For his part, Mario García Romo will debut in the San Silvestre Vallecana and in the 10K modality. The man from Salamanca, 24 years old and still unmarked in this distance, will appeal to his status as the current national mile record holder to be ahead of him.

Another Spanish record holder who will be on the starting line will be Tariku Novales, the new marathon record holder after breaking the 2:06 barrier in Valencia a few weeks ago (2:05:48). The marathon runner will run 'la Vallecana' with a best 10K record of 29:12, achieved in this test in 2018.

For his part, Yago Rojo from Madrid, who also had an excellent performance in the Valencia Marathon with a minimum for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, returns to this San Silvestre after missing the last edition due to injury and after shining in 2021 with a seventh place and his best time in 10K (28:27).

Other names in this edition are the two surprises from the last edition such as Sergio Paniagua, fourth in 2022 and current Spanish Cross Country runner-up, and Aarón Las Heras, who was fifth, or a 'classic' of this athletic farewell of the year like Fernando Carro, who has a best 10K time of 27:46.
