The second phase of the Iberdrola Challenge advances and Villarreal and Deportivo Alavés have the advantage to achieve the long-awaited promotion to the Women's First Division. The yellow team is the outstanding leader of the southern group C, with 11 points over the second (Albacete), while the albiazul occupies the first place in northern group C, although only two points above Osasuna.
This campaign the Second Division was restructured into four groups based on geographic criteria because of the pandemic of the coronavirus: North group A and B, and South group A and B. The 34 teams in the silver category were classified in this way in a first phase that exceeded the first four of each group.
In this way, they passed to the north group C the Atlético B, Real Oviedo, Madrid CFF B, Racing de Santander, Alavés, Barcelona B and SE AEM de Lleida. While in the southern group C are the Pozoalbense, Granada, Granadilla Tenerife B, CFF Cáceres, Villarreal, Albacete, Alhama and Tacuense.
In this second phase, the teams keep the points added in the first phase and their goals scored and a total of eight days are played. Once the calendar is finished, the two champions in each group will go up to the highest category.
Villarreal, launched towards the ascent
And Villarreal is launched towards the First Iberdrola. The yellow team was already champion of group south B after adding 41 points in 16 days, winning 13 games, drawing two and losing one. Now, they lead South Group C with 48 points after winning two games and drawing one in this second phase. Also in his favor is not having conceded a single goal these weeks.
The forward – and also an athlete – Salma Paralluelo is its great star. The U-17 world champion has scored 14 goals in Reto Iberdrola this campaign and wants to continue marking them in Primera the next one. They take 11 points out of the second and there are five days left to play.
Meanwhile, North Group C is led by Alavés, which also has an advantage over the second, but it is less than enough: it takes two points from Osasuna. The Albiazules were also leaders of their group, the North B, in the first phase, with 37 points obtained in 12 wins, one draw and three defeats.. They are now 43 and their top scorer is Sanadri. The glorious ones have faith and they also want to be in First next season.
Another group to decide the descent
Finally, we must also talk about the second phase in which permanence is at stake. Of the 16 teams that are divided into North Group D and South Group D, a total of eight will be relegated. Half. UD Collerense, Espanyol B, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Friol, Parquesol, Sporting de Gijón, Zaragoza CFF, Athletic Club B, CE Seagull (north group D), Córdoba CF, Málaga CF, Levante B, CD Juan Grande, Joventut Almassora, UD Aldaia, La Solana, Valencia B and Femarguín are those who fight to remain in Second. Also here the points and the coefficient are preserved, but there are ten days in total.
