A formidable Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck) won the pulse of the sprinters' teams in the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, one of the Belgian classics that opens the pav season. The attack of the dans in the absence of 25 kilometers proved too much for the group of favorites, which shortly before they had surpassed the legendary Kwaremont. One day after the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the 201 kilometers along the undulating and narrow roads around the city of Ronse gave away a beautiful show, only taken by Gianni Moscon.
The 25-year-old Italian was disqualified after throwing a bicycle against a runner at the B&B Hotels-Vital Concept who tried to join after a crowd every time 65 kilometers were left for the goal. The commissioners, who reviewed the video episode, expelled Moscon for “aggressive and unsportsmanlike behavior.”
Upon receiving the news of his disqualification, 50 km to the finish line, the Ineos runner reacted angrily, taking off the dorsals of his jersey, breaking them and throwing them against the ground.
This is not Moscon's first indiscipline episode, which in the Tour de France 2018 hit Elie Gesbert (Fortuneo-Samsic) in the helmet and was suspended five weeks by the UCI.
That same season, the highest international organization investigated Moscon after a complaint by Sbastien Reichenbach (FDJ), who accused him of having thrown him on purpose in the Three Vares Valley. The UCI discipline committee filed the file for lack of documentary evidence.
The conflict with Reichenbach, who suffered elbow and hip fractures, seemed to date from 2017, after the first serious episode of Moscon. Then, the Italian fye suspended by Team Sky after his racist insults against Kevin Reza in the third stage of the Romanda Tour.
