UEFA threatens to take Wembley final to Budapest

UEFA has issued a warning to the United Kingdom and threatens to take away the semifinals and the final of the European Championship from Wembley If the entry restrictions into the country are not relaxed between now and the scheduled dates for said meetings. According to him Times, the highest body would have already prepared an alternative to play the Final Four. It would be about Budapest, the only venue where there is no capacity limit and whose first meeting registered an almost full house with 55,662 spectators in the stands.

The strong access measures to the United Kingdom would make it very difficult for the 2,500 VIPs and organization personnel to enter. It is estimated that they will participate in the Final Four, all of them with nationalities other than British and therefore forced to serve a quarantine upon entering the country. Although exceptions are already being made for players and workers in the matches that are being played at Wembley, expanding this to almost 3,000 people is what worries UEFA and puts the government of Boris Johnson in check, which would have to turn a blind eye to large numbers of people if you decide not to relax the current measures.

This reason already meant that the Champions League final was not played at Wembley and went to Porto, once Istanbul was ruled out. Despite the fact that it was two English teams that were contesting it, the problems that UEFA encountered in transferring its sponsors, VIPs and employees made them look the other way and discard the English headquarters. Something similar could happen now in the Eurocup.
