The young Marc Guiu leaves Barça and signs for Chelsea

MADRID, 1 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish striker Marc Guiu became a new Chelsea player on Monday, leaving FC Barcelona at just 18 years old to sign a new contract with the London club for the next five seasons, with the option of a further year, according to a statement.

“The Spaniard has agreed a five-year contract with the Blues, which includes a one-year option, and will join up with his new teammates for pre-season,” the London club announced on their website regarding the future of the Spanish striker.

Thus, Guiu decided to leave the FC Barcelona structure, playing regularly in the Barça reserve team last season, making his debut with the first team in an official match in October of last year. And his debut was very eye-catching, since he came on in the 79th minute against Athletic Club and unblocked the duel with the final 1-0 just 23 seconds after he entered the field.

The 18-year-old striker made six more appearances for the first team in the 2023-2024 season, also scoring his first goal in the Champions League in a group stage match against Belgian side Antwerp. He was Spain’s top scorer in the U-17 European Championship last summer, and is already a regular in the U-19 national team’s squad.

The player showed his “immense joy” at signing for Chelsea, a transfer for which he “had a hard time sleeping.” “I was very excited. Since I was little, my dream was to play in the Premier League. I will work as hard as I can to succeed at the club,” said the attacker in statements to the club’s media.
