After Kansas’s close win at Assembly Hall on Saturday, it was reasonable to wonder if Indiana might have experienced a letdown.

That’s exactly what took place. The Hoosiers didn’t seem interested at all from the start, which helped Morehead State.

Indiana only made 34.4% of their shots in the opening half, gave up seven offensive boards, and trailed 36–25 at halftime.

Anthony Walker played well and scored eight points in the first 20 minutes, but that was the only good thing for the Hoosiers. Six points were scored by Kel’el Ware, Mackenzie Mgbako, and Malik Reneau together.

Indiana had the last chance to score, but Trey Galloway lost the ball and Eddie Ricks III dunk it to give the Philadelphia Eagles an 11-point lead. This may have been the worst play of the first half.

Early in the second half, the Hoosiers played much better. Ware score eight points to bring the Hoosiers within four points, 37-33, which made Morehead State call a timeout at 17:42.

But Eagles’ Jordan Lathon kept going strong, and they grew the lead back to 11 points, 53–42, with 12:23 left.

Reneau fouled Lathon on a 3-point shot, and Lathon made it, giving Morehead State a 15-point lead at 9:29. The under-8 media break was with 7:10 left in the game and the Eagles ahead 64–53.

Indiana got within seven points after an 8-0 run, and Morehead State called a timeout with 6:16 left.

Anthony Walker made a 3-point play that cut the Hoosiers’ lead to two points, 64–62, at the 4:11 mark. This made IU’s run 13-0.

At 3:14, Trey Galloway’s 3-pointer gave IU its first lead since 16–15. Kalil Thomas for the Eagles tied the game at 66.

Walker made two free throws and Mgbako made one, giving Indiana a 69-66 lead. But with 48 seconds left, Dieonte Miles scored for Morehead, making the score 69-68 Hoosiers.

After a break, Mgbako missed a 3-point shot, but Reneau got the ball back and was fouled while putting it back in. Reneau missed both of his free throws. With 24.7% left, Morehead State called a timeout.

On the last play, Morehead State worked the clock to just a few seconds, and Lathon tried a long shot that Reneau blocked to seal the win, Indiana’s eighth of the season.

With 8:58 left, Indiana was behind 64–49. But the Hoosiers made the next 17 points and took their first lead since 16:15, 65–64. During the run, the Eagles miss nine shots in a row.

With 1:55 left, Walker made two free throws, but the rest of Morehead State’s players only made one of four to keep them in the game.
