Quim Salarich seeks a ‘Top 15’ in slalom to confirm his great season

MADRID, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish skier Quim Salarich opens this Wednesday at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in search of the ‘Top 15’ in the alpine ski slalom event, a competition in which he does not give up anything and in which he hopes to corroborate the good feelings experienced this season.

The one from Malla (Barcelona), 28, faces his second Games in the Chinese capital, after participating four years ago in Pyeongchang 2018, and with the trick of having achieved the best results in decades for a Spaniard in the Cup of the World of slalom with the two 15th places in Val d’Isere and Madonna di Campiglio in the month of December.

Precisely, that ‘Top 15’ is the one that is set, at least, for this Wednesday at the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Center, where he will go down with number 29. “We are ambitious and we are going for the best possible results,” said Salarich, who in training has rubbed shoulders with the times of the main contenders for a medal.

“It is a more affordable race for the ‘outsiders’, because there are not as many participants as in the World Cup. It is an opportunity and you have to take advantage of it. You don’t have to go to ensure and reach the finish line; my strategy is to shoot hard from the beginning and give my 100% no matter what happens and go home satisfied,” he warned.

The first round will start at 03:15 Spanish peninsular time, while the second will start at 06:45. In addition to his two fifteenth places in December, Salarich took third place in the European Cup slalom in Vaujany, France, in January.
