Spain places fifth in the team final of the European artistic gymnastics competition

The Spanish women’s artistic gymnastics team completed a good opening day this Thursday at the European Championships being held in Rimini (Italy), advancing to the end with the fifth best score.

Alba Petisco, Ana Pérez, Laura Casabuena, Laia Masferrer and Marina Escudero achieved 154.462 that put Spain fifth, four points off the podium that closes France. Italy is the clear favorite for gold (165,296) ahead of Great Britain, second.

In addition, Petisco reached the finals on floor apparatus (13.166) and bar (13.133), while Ana Pérez also achieved it on bar (13.166). The apparatus finals will be on Saturday from 4:25 p.m. and the senior team finals will close on Sunday.

Manila Esposito triumphed this Thursday in front of her audience to take the gold in the ‘all around’ with 55,432 points, based on the vault. The best Spanish was Petisco, sixth in Europe (52,699).
