Number one Swiatek repeats final in Madrid

MADRID, 2 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek gave no option (6-1, 6-3) to the American Madison Keys this Thursday to reach the final of the Mutua Madrid Open, a 1,000 category tournament for the WTA, repeating the last step in the Spanish capital after seeing escape the title last year.

Swiatek served as number one, a tennis player who, at 22 years old, has spent the last two years at the top of the ranking. The Pole, who already won the titles in this same category in Doha and Indian Wells in 20224, will go for the third against Aryna Sabalenka or Elena Rybakina.

The favorite in the Caja Mágica delivered against a Keys who had just surprised other ‘Top 10’ like Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur. The American had beaten the Pole in Cincinnati in 2022, but in the Manolo Santana she had nothing to do, with a break down in each set and without taking advantage of her few options.

Swiatek always had his serve to the rescue, or at least in the three break balls he lifted to go on the fast track, just over an hour, to the final. The Pole, who arrived with the regret of seeing her streak stopped in Stuttgart, will have a second straight assault on the final in Madrid after losing the last one against Sabalenka.
