Presented the City of Sport, “a project that will change the history” of Atlético de Madrid

MADRID, 19 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Atlético de Madrid presented this Tuesday the Sports City project, which will be its future new sports city annexed to the Cívitas Metropolitano and which will include two new connections with the M-40 highway and a new service road, as well as two facilities municipal and a mini stadium with capacity for 6,000 spectators.

“We are presenting a project that we believe will change our history”, stressed the president of Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezo, at the presentation of this project, which he defined as “an innovative initiative” with the aim of “Madrid becoming a reference in the fields of sport and sustainability”.

The leader recalled that “this announcement comes when they are about to celebrate five years since the arrival at the Metropolitan, which changed the district of San Blas-Canillejas.” “The project that we present today endorses our commitment to continue implementing improvements that help the neighbors,” he explained.

In addition, Enrique Cerezo stressed the club’s commitment to sustainability and the agreement with the Cívitas real estate company as “sponsor of sustainability” and “main strategic partner to meet the objectives set by the UN”, something that will be of greater importance during the construction of the Sports City.

ALMEIDA: “TODAY IS AN EXTRAORDINARILY IMPORTANT DAY FOR MADRID”

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, who also underlined the importance of the City of Sports, which will have new municipal facilities. The mayor explained that it is a work that “sits on a million square meters, with an investment of more than 200 million euros.”

The leader focused on the fact that this sports city “will have a high-performance center and facilities like few other teams in the world will have” and that “the residents of Madrid and the San Blas-Canillejas district will be able to have access to new large unparalleled sports areas”.

“There are five plots, of those two they will be exclusively dedicated to the enjoyment of all Madrid residents, in which there will be an athletics track with two soccer fields, as well as soccer fields 7 and four indoor courts, in addition to tracks of paddle tennis. Then there are three plots of which, one will be for leisure use and that will be used by all the people of Madrid”, explained the mayor.

The deadline set by Martínez-Almeida for the municipal facilities of the Ciudad del Deporte to be available is two years and he hopes that “within 24 months those plots owned by the Madrid City Council can be completed” and that ” they are going to start immediately, in the second quarter of the year”, starting with the new highway accesses.

José Luis Martínez-Almeida also praised the work of Cerezo and Miguel Ángel Gil Marín at the helm of Atlético de Madrid, who during their time in charge changed stadiums and prepared this new sports city.

“When you look back as manager of a football team, you can feel very proud of the legacy you are going to leave to future generations of Atléticos. The stadium was first moved here, we all know how difficult it was and we all know the jump sporting and qualitative that came here”, he affirmed.

ALEJANDRO AYALA: “WE SHOULD BE FINISHED IN THREE OR FOUR YEARS”

Finally, the president of Cívitas, Alejandro Ayala, also spoke about the project, explaining that following “the execution deadlines for the work, it should be completed in three or four years.”

The company, which was announced as the club’s new sustainability sponsor and which will name the Metropolitano stadium, does not know if it will also be the one in the name of the City of Sport. “That is a part that has not yet been defined, we initially give the stadium a naming and all the advice on the development of sustainability of the things that are being done,” he assured.

“Really, the project of Atlético de Madrid today is unique, there is no other club that has the sports city and the stadium in the same area,” said Ayala in relation to the reason for this important union between Cívitas and the rojiblanco club.
