Phil Read, seven-time motorcycle world champion, dies

Former motorcycling driver Phil Read passed away this Thursday, at the age of 83, leaving behind a career with which he became a legend on two wheels, with seven world championship titles.

“Everyone in MotoGP is saddened by the news of the passing of Phil Read, a seven-time world champion who helped take our sport to a higher level,” the World Championship organization shared on social media.

The Briton won seven titles between 1964 and 1974. “His impact on motorcycling will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Phil,” adds MotoGP on the death of a Read who was known as ‘The prince of speed’ with his 52 victories.
