Cervera: “We played an ugly game, in theory, to get something out of it”

The Cádiz coach, Álvaro Cervera, acknowledged this Sunday after the 0-0 draw against Villarreal, at the Ramón de Carranza stadium, that his team had played “an ugly game, in theory, to get something positive”.

Cervera said at a press conference that “with this type of team”, referring to Villarreal, “if you play them differently, you can lose”, since “they have a lot of quality.”

The Cadista coach indicated that “defensively it was the game” they had planned to ensure that Villarreal did not have “much space behind” the defenders, although he admitted that his team could not generate many scoring chances either.

He added that Villarreal “does not go out to see what happens” and that “at no time has he lost a stupid ball”, so that Cádiz has not been able to “catch” him in counterattacks.

Cádiz has added four points in the last two games against Real Madrid (0-1) and Villarreal (0-0), something that he described as “complicated”, adding that “as long as the score is going well”.

Cervera referred to the goal disallowed by Álvaro Negredo in the first half at the request of the VAR, for offside and after the referee saw the action on the monitor at the foot of the field, and in this sense he demanded that all doubtful actions be reviewed in every encounter.
