Carreño and Schwartzman meet with an eye on Nadal

The Spanish Pablo Carreño and the Argentine Diego Schartzman, world numbers 9 and 13 respectively, will meet in the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell after resolving in two sets and in less than two hours their round of 16 matches. Two tennis players who will offer an even, dynamic and fast-paced match, with an eye on Rafael Nadal, theoretical rival of the winner in the semifinals if they manage to overcome the British Cameron Norrie.

On the Manolo Santana track, when the temperature dropped by the minute, Argentine Diego Schwartzman did not have excessive problems to leave French Corentin Moutet, number 75 in the ATP ranking (6-4 and 6-2) by the wayside. A first win by 6-4 thanks to a break by the Argentine, of 1.70, one of the smallest players in the championship who hopes to get in tune after his premature elimination in Monte Carlo. After that set, the Frenchman mentally paid him off and succumbed more easily, always at the mercy of the Argentine's backcourt game.

Moutet, one of the talents of French tennis at 21 years old, has stayed in the way of the eighth like the Spanish Bernabé Zapata, who stood up to Carreño (6-3 and 6-4). The player number 147 of the ATP ranking, who had passed the round due to the disqualification of Italian Fabio Fognini, put up resistance in both sets, even with some advantage to be able to get closer to the victory, but Carreño was more constant in the defining moments.

Both tennis players have met twice in their careers, already long, with a victory for each of them, although since 2017 they have not seen faces. This 2021 Carreño already achieved a victory against Jaume munar at the end of Marbella ATP 250 while in Monte Carlo he managed to advance one round more than the Argentine and fell in the round of 32.
