Belgium wants a BeNeliga

The Belgian Pro League has met this Tuesday to try to reach an agreement on the remodeling of the league format in the nearest future. Its president, Peter Croonen, announced that they have not reached a concrete agreement and that more meetings will be needed but that they have been able to make clear the unanimous support of the members for a possible BeNeliga together with the Dutch teams.

“There is unanimous support for the possible realization of the BeNeliga. From now on, the leadership of the Pro League will play an active role in this regard. “, warns in a statement to the press. “The BeNeliga must be accompanied by the guarantee of financial stability for the other professional clubs through the creation of a national league. “

Just a month ago, the consulting firm Deloitte prepared an economic report on what it would mean for both leagues to join together to create a more powerful league and, according to this report, this BeNeliga would generate about 400 million euros for television rights. A considerable figure considering that currently the Eredivisie contract is € 80M and the Pro League € 103M. Both agreements end in 2025.
