Alfa Romeo and Sauber will part ways at the end of the 2023 season

MADRID, 26 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian brand Alfa Romeo and the Sauber team will not continue together when the contract that unites them from 2021 and which runs until the end of the 2023 season ends, which may mean the end of their stage in Formula 1.

Alfa Romeo and Sauber signed a multi-year contract in the summer of 2021, after starting their collaboration that began in the 2018 season. Now, when this expires, the Italian brand will leave a hole in the team that is supposed to be filled by Audi, whose future presence in Formula 1 has already been officially confirmed.

Alfa Romeo announced the decision through a statement just hours after Audi, which has already become a Sauber shareholder, officially agreed to the competition. “Alfa Romeo announced its return to Formula 1 in 2017 with a long-term plan and in July 2022 it has announced the decision to continue its partnership with Sauber also for 2023, given that the results of the first half of the season have been promising. both in performance and marketing and have been positive for the collaboration with the team,” he detailed.

Looking to the future, it is unknown whether or not the Italians will continue to be linked to Formula 1. “Alfa Romeo will now evaluate between the different opportunities on the table and decide which is the best for the sustainability of the long-term strategy and brand positioning,” the statement concluded.
