Fernando Alonso: “It is a good sign that they relate us to Newey”

MADRID, 3 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) confessed the important “challenge” that comes to them this week with the Miami Grand Prix, especially due to heat not experienced so far in the World Championship, while praising Adrian Newey and he celebrated being related to his team.

“He is a legend of the sport, I feel privileged to compete at this moment in Formula 1 and the last 20 years sharing this sport with Adrian, obviously as a competitor. It is a privilege to be associated with Aston Martin, it is a good sign and good news for us. That they associate him, a sports legend, with Aston Martin,” he said this Thursday in Miami.

The double world champion spoke to the media and was asked about the announcement the day before of Newey’s departure from Red Bull after a 19-year relationship. “We are also very happy with our technical department, we will see what they decide, whether they want to continue in the paddock or not. The most important thing for us is to concentrate on the new regulations,” he added.

On the other hand, Alonso explained the difficulty of the American route in Miami. “It’s a big challenge for the team to set up the car. It’s the hottest race on the calendar so far and it will be a challenge to cool the engine and get the brakes up to temperature and the gearbox and all these things will be new for the first time in 2024, but we love the challenge,” he said.

“We have very little time, we will only have one free practice, only one to configure the car and achieve the best possible point, so it will be a challenge that we like,” he added.
