A slight sanction for RdT

Espanyol has notified that the Competition Committee has punished Raúl de Tomás with a game after his expulsion in the aftermath of the match against Athletic (1-1). The forward, who was threatened by a greater sanction, will finally miss this Sunday’s match against him Getafe and could reappear next week against Granada and will be in the long-awaited derby against Barcelona on the weekend of November 22.

The striker, top scorer perico, faced the rojiblanco defender Yeray Álvarez in a dispute between the two. And, after that, he behaved “violently” according to the referee. The defender fell to the ground and the referee, Ortiz Arias, wrote the following on the score sheet: “In the 90th minute, the player De Tomás Gómez, Raúl was sent off for the following reason: to face an opponent in a violent way hitting with his face on the neck of the opposing player, without the ball being in play.”

According to various articles of the Disciplinary Code, the sanction could have been up to four parties. Espanyol decided to present allegations and was confident that only one match would fall because the images soften what was seen on the field, which was also the result of a set in the game. Yeray also saw the yellow card for that action.
