Turkish Cakir, referee for Sevilla-Rennes

The UEFA has made public the arbitration appointments for the second day of the group stage of the Champions League, being the Turk Cuneyt Cakir the one in charge of dispensing justice in the Seville-Rennes this Wednesday at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium starting at nine at night.

At the age of 43, Cakir has a long international career since he was recognized by FIFA in 2006. He is a renowned referee who, among other matches, has directed the 2015 Champions League final, in which the Barcelona beat Juventus 3-1.

Curiously, the only precedent for Sevilla with this referee was the 2015 Euroderbi in the 2013-14 Europa League, the one that Unai Emery's team won in Turin against Benfica in the final. After losing 0-2 at Sánchez Pizjuán, the Sevilla players forced extra time in the second leg after returning the score to their rival in Heliópolis and won on penalties, with a stellar performance by Portuguese Beto that allowed the Sevilla players to go to the round of quarter finals.
