Team USA has made sure that it will play the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIBA World Cup Quarterfinals. Along with securing a place for themselves in the Quarters of the current world cup, the Americans also made sure that they will play in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Team USA beat Brazil 89 -73 on Monday in what was the last match in the second round of the Basketball World Cup. The major contributors who ensured US win were Kemba Walker and Myles Turner who scored 16 points each. They will now face France in the quest for the semi-final match of the tournament. If they win in Wednesday’s quarters, they will be a step closer to becoming the first country to be winning the World Cup event for the third consecutive time.

Coach Gregg Popovich was quite excited about qualifying for the Olympics. “We’re thrilled that we’ve qualified for the Olympics. With this new situation in qualifying, you don’t want to do that every year. That’s a pretty big grind.” He said. Incidentally, we will be leading the Team USA in the Summer Olympics 2020 in Tokyo.
And yes, with this victory, the Americans ensured that it was a win-win situation for the other two nations as well. The USA win ensured a spot for the Argentinians a spot in the Olympics, while the Cech Republic was guaranteed a Quarter final spot.
Other quarter-final matches in the FIBA World Cup will be played between Serbia and Argentina along with Spain and Poland on Tuesday. Australia will meet the Cech republic in another Quarter final match on Wednesday.
