The USA were straight into the defeat when they were playing their basketball match against Turkey. However, they could finally win 93-92 over the Turkish team on Tuesday. The match was being played as part of the Fiba World Cup Group Stage at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center.
The margin was the closest one for the American team in the world championships after they suffered a six point loss to Greece in 2006. The situation on Tuesday closely resembled it. This win has helped the US team to advance to the second round for the US basketball team.

This has been the third win for the US against the Turkey team. They have met three times in the world cup so far and the US has been able to beat Turkey in all the matches played between them. The previous instances of the US interaction with Turkey were also impressive, but completely one-sided. 2010 saw them competing in the world championship at Istanbul for the gold medal and the US won by 81 – 64 points. The next time they met in a world tie was in 2014, it could beat Turkey by 98 – 77. The World cup game between the two teams had them surge ahead from a five-point half time deficit.
The US basketball team can reach the first place in Group E if they can beat Japan on Thursday. This would be their final match in the preliminary stage of the Fiba world cup series.
