Spain will fight for gold in the men’s U-20 Eurobasket

Rematch against Israel in search of the third title in the category

MADRID, 23 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish U-20 men’s basketball team beat Israel (84-75) this Saturday to reach the European final of the category that is being played in Podgorica.

Joaquín Prado’s team signed their six out of six in victories so as not to miss out on the fight for gold, in search of what would be the third for Spain, this Sunday in the final against Lithuania or the host Montenegro.

Spain dominated the semifinal, but had to maintain concentration and success without lowering their guard to take revenge for the final lost to Israel in the 2019 event. The Spanish team got the start with another exhibition from the triple, following the line of the previous clash against Belgium.

Domínguez, Domenech and Díaz-Graham scored from a distance (25-15) and Spain got a good cushion midway through the second quarter (35-19). Israel suffered but in the second half they did not throw in the towel, despite the bombardment of triples by Prado’s men.

The Israeli squad arrived alive to the last quarter (66-57), with Spain seeing the score narrow dangerously less than two minutes from the end of the match (77-72). Two triples by Jiménez sealed the triumph of a Spain U-20 men’s team that will play its eighth European final.
