Ryan Giggs announced this Monday that he is leaving the position of Wales coach after being removed from the position in November 2020 when he was accused of mistreatment by his ex-partner.

The legendary former Manchester United player was arrested on November 3, 2020 and accused of assaulting two women, one of them his ex-partner Kate Greville, whom he allegedly controlled and with whom he allegedly had coercive behavior between 2017 and 2020.

Rob Page has been in charge of the Welsh team since November 2020 and has just qualified for its first World Cup since Sweden 1958 after defeating Ukraine on the 5th in the play-off final (1-0). Wales will play in the same group as England, the United States and Iran at Qatar 2022.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to coach my country, but I think it is right for Wales to prepare for the World Cup safely and without speculation regarding their manager’s position,” Giggs said in a statement.
Delayed judgment, key
“As published, I have pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges I have faced in court in Manchester. Although I am confident in the judicial process, I would have liked the case to have been closed sooner so that I could continue with my responsibilities as a coach,” added Giggs, whose trial has been pushed back to August 8 after initially being set for January 24.
“It was no one’s fault that the process was delayed. I do not want the preparation of my country’s team for the World Cup to be affected or destabilized by the continued interest in my case,” Giggs justified.
