Rubén Castro, new Malaga player

The 41-year-old striker from the Canary Islands, Rubén Castro, became a Málaga player on Wednesday, a club he joined on a free transfer after finishing his contract with Cartagena and with whom he signed for this season.

Malaga has made official the most anticipated incorporation by the fans in recent days, which comes after Cartagena confirmed that the Canarian attacker had rejected an offer to renew with the Albinegro team.

The sports management of Málaga has convinced Castro for a change of scenery after having become the pillar of Cartagena in the two seasons that he has led the team with 39 goals in the Second Division and, from the entity, they trust his experience and goalscoring instinct to make a big leap in the sports project.

Rubén Castro is the fifth top scorer in the history of LaLiga and is only seven goals away from surpassing Quini as the greatest Spanish scorer ever, as he has scored 278 goals in 22 seasons in professional Spanish football, 12 in the First Division and 10 in the silver category.

He has defended the colors of Las Palmas, Deportivo de La Coruña, Racing de Santander, Albacete, Gimnástic de Tarragona, Huesca, Rayo Vallecano, Real Betis and Cartagena, and his new club defines him as an “infallible and unpredictable player, with inexhaustible resources in the auction and a privileged sense of smell”.
