Novak Djokovic joins the wave of solidarity in sport with a million dollar donation to fight the coronavirus in Serbia

In the middle of the global pandemic from coronavirusMany athletes have decided to step forward and collaborate financially with their country. That is the case of Novak Djokovic, the number one tennis player in the world, who announced that will donate one million euros (USD 1.2 million) to the Serbian health authorities for improve medical equipment that are necessary for the fight against COVID-19.

"Our donation of one million euros is for the purchase of breathing apparatus and other medical equipment. Respirators are now the most essential equipment for save human lives"He declared Djokovic in a video conference that he gave with his wife Jelena.

Precisely she, who is director of the ‘Novak Djokovic’ Foundation, called for more donations to be made to combat the coronavirus and announced the opening of a bank account for this purpose.

"Each of us tries to help in this situation to the best of your ability, contribute your time, effort, resources, anyway, to be available to your country and the people who need it the most, "added the tennis player, who also expressed “Big thanks to staff and medical experts throughout the world”.

Until now, Serbia has reported 457 confirmed cases of coronavirus and seven people have lost their lives due to this pandemic that started in China.

The ATP has suspended the circuit for six weeks last March 12 because of coronavirus, although like other professional disciplines, the deadline for the resumption is unknown and the world tennis authorities are not guaranteed how the calendar will be developed between now and the end of 2020.
