Linda Evangelista suffered mistreatment: “He knew he shouldn’t hit me in the face because it made him money”

Beyond fame, Linda Evangelista He has lived through turbulent years, marked by illness and mental health problems. The supermodel has always spoken carefully about it, waiting for the right moment to open up. And she has done the same in The Super Models, documentary that premiered a few days ago on Apple TV+, and in which the Canadian star reveals that she was a victim of abuse.

The top model recounts, for the first time, the hell she went through during her relationship with Gérard Marie, former director of the prestigious Elite Model modeling agency. “He knew that he should not touch my face, not touch anything that would generate money,” he explains in the documentary.

Although it was rumored that there was abuse in their relationship, neither of them had confirmed it. However, enough time has passed for Evangelista to have felt strong enough to speak.

“He told me that he would give me a divorce only if he kept everything. At least I was safe and I could regain my freedom,” says the supermodel, who separated from the businessman in 1993. Shortly after, Marie was accused of sexual assault by part of several women.

Health problems

The model’s latest statements come after she opened up about her state of health last September. Evangelista was diagnosed with breast cancer twice in just five years.

In 2018 he underwent his first intervention, as he told The Wall Street Journal: “I was detected after my annual mammogram. The results were not good and, due to other health factors, I opted for a bilateral mastectomy. Thinking that I would be fine for life. That breast cancer was not going to kill me” .

Some time later, his second diagnosis came, from which he also recovered. “I know I have one foot in the grave, but I’m totally in celebration mode.” After everything she had suffered, she explained: “I am very happy to be alive. Everything that comes now is a bonus.”

“I’m not able to look at myself in the mirror”

Furthermore, in February 2022, an image of the model went around the world due to her obvious physical change. “I’m not able to look at myself in the mirror,” she confessed on the cover of People. He had previously turned to the CoolSculpting company to rejuvenate his face, but the result was not what he expected.

Starting in 2016, the supermodel began to be treated for paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, a disease that she developed as a consequence of the cryolipolysis that had been applied to her. Through cosmetic operations and treatments she managed to feel little by little better about herself.

Last summer he starred in a historic cover of Vogue other greats of his generation: Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington y Naomi Campbell.
