Leonor reunites the Borbón family for her 18th birthday: Juan Carlos I returns to Spain for his granddaughter

Confirmed by the King’s House. Leonor will swear in the Constitution on the day she turns 18, next October 31. It will do so in the Cortes, in a plenary session before the Congress and the Senate, as “has been specified” in a meeting held with “the president of the Senate, the Government and the House”, as we have been informed from Zarzuela. The Princess of Asturias follows the same script that she outlined for her father. The then Prince Felipe took the oath to the Constitution on the day he came of age, January 30, 1986. The date marked on Leonor’s calendar had been under debate for months. Even before the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, brought forward the elections to 23-J and also after the elections were held. The possibility that the Cortes would be dissolved by October 31 had led us to a sort of very complex crossword puzzle of dates. It was the Royal Family itself that confirmed, through a note sent this Friday afternoon, the 22nd, the Swearing ceremony.

The ceremony finds two settings: the headquarters of the Congress, in the Cortes, and the Royal Palace, where he will receive the Collar of the Order of Charles III. The highest powers of the State will attend both events. This will be the public format of the ceremony. The private format will take place at the Palacio del Pardo. The party will be attended by Felipe VI’s family and Letizia’s family. And this is where the focus is. Juan Carlos I and Doña Sofía will attend this private event, where the infantas, Elena and Cristina, are also expected. This will be the great family conclave of the Bourbons. Leonor will unite her family on her 18th birthday, which also includes Jura. The last two times we saw the Borbón reunited were at funerals, that of Infanta Pilar, in 2020; and that of Constantine of Greece, in January of this year. King Juan Carlos, therefore, will return to Spain and this time it will not be to Sanxenxo or to the regattas. This time, he will come to Madrid, but the event in which he will participate has been designed to be off the agenda.
