Spain’s coxless four enters the women’s final of the Lucerne Pre-Olympic

The Spanish four-coxless boat, formed by Rocío Laó, Iria Jarama, Olivia del Castillo and María Fernanda Valencia, has entered this Sunday to the women’s final of the Rowing Pre-Olympic that is held in Lucerne (Switzerland), while the Spanish Virginia Díaz has reached the semifinals of the single sculls.

Laó, Jarama, Del Castillo and Valencia were fifth in their preliminary race with a finish time of 6:48.19. The Danes Astrid Steensberg, Frida Sanggaard Nielsen, Marie Skytte Hauberg Johannesen and Julie Poulsen took the victory with a time of 6:34.41.

Meanwhile, Díaz competed in one of the three preliminary series that gave access to the semifinals. She and she won first of all with a finish time of 7:37.09, ahead of the Swiss Aurelia-Maxima Katharina Janzen (7:37.63) and the Slovenian Nina Kostanjsek (7:42.42).

On the other hand, the also Spanish Daniel Gutiérrez competed in one of the five preliminaries that gave access to the quarterfinals. And in his he finished second with a time of 7:00.41, behind the British George Bourne (6:56.73) and ahead of the Australian Oscar Mcguinness (7:13.52).

In addition, Natalia de Miguel and Teresa Díaz were fourth (7:25.95) in their preliminary heat of the women’s lightweight double sculls, so they will have to compete in the repechage. The men’s coxed four will do the same, since Jordi Jofre, Gonzalo García, Manel Balastegui and Antonio Díaz finished in fifth place (6:28.19) in their preliminary.
