Juan Carlos Martín ‘Hansen’ seeks to “regenerate” rugby with his candidacy for the FER

MADRID, 15 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Juan Carlos Martín ‘Hansen’ presented this Friday his candidacy for the presidency of the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER), whose elections will be held on July 30, in the Samaranch Hall of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) in Madrid.

The candidacy hopes to “regenerate” Spanish rugby in the face of the current “unsustainability” that sport is experiencing, thus modernizing its structures, processes, operations and governance of the FER with a strategy that serves to “achieve the objectives of promotion and dissemination”, according to they detailed.

To do this, the management team that heads one of the three proposals for the presidency of the FER will update the ‘Value of Rugby’ programme. “We will give continuity to the work carried out and verifying what the whole world is now showing, something that we had already identified,” they added.

The proposals divided them into terms. In the short term, they highlighted the axis of change in the national teams, with two technical directors -one for the women’s group and the other for the men’s-, together with an ‘Emerging’ office that will be in charge of the Spanish rugby factory to generate more players in the national teams, and the creation of U-16 and U-17 teams, among some of the proposals.

In the medium term, a term of two years until the next elections in 2024, they highlighted the increase in private income -including sponsorships by at least 50 percent-, the Liga División de Honor managed by the clubs and the status of professionals.

With all this, from 2022 to 2028, through a re-election, they hope to have increased the number of teams, referees and coaches, along with the value of the ‘Rugby Spain’ brand. Also, the proposals will be aimed at promoting and promoting “with determination” the female category.

In this sense, they will promote the Women’s National League, where the teams can form themselves, without the need to belong to a men’s one in any area and region, and support for the territorial ones so that agreements can be reached with Universities and municipalities to recruit athletes.
