MADRID, 6 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Two goals from German midfielder Ilkay Gündogan guided Manchester City’s victory over Leeds United (2-1) on matchday 35 of the Premier League, whose leadership the ‘citizens’ consolidated on a Saturday that also saw Liverpool’s triumph against him Brentford (1-0) to continue their climb to fourth position.

Thanks to their tenth consecutive victory in the league championship, Manchester City reached 82 points and leads Arsenal by four, charging up their spirits for their imminent Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. Meanwhile, this defeat left Leeds with 30 points and on the verge of relegation.

Gündogan opened the ‘can’ at the Etihad Stadium midway through the first half, with a low right foot from the crown of the area, a pass from Riyad Mahrez. In the 27th minute, they repeated their leading roles and roles, although with the German scoring at the opposite post. The Spanish Rodrigo Moreno reduced the distances in the final stages, after Gündogan missed a penalty.

On the other hand, Tottenham broke their losing streak of a month without winning. And they did it at home against Crystal Palace (1-0) with a header from captain Harry Kane, after a Pedro Porro cross from the right wing. Thus, 57 points reached the ‘spurs’, sixth and on the lookout for a Liverpool that watches in the rear-view mirror while winning.

Not in vain, the ‘reds’ made Anfield happy with their 1-0 win against Brentford and that helped them to add 62 points. A goal from Mohamed Salah in the first quarter of an hour, finishing off an assist from Virgil van Dijk in two stages, gave Jürgen Klopp’s men the sixth consecutive victory, who are watching Manchester United closely (63 pts.).

In the rest of the Saturday round of matches, Chelsea’s 3-1 win at the Vitality Stadium stood out. A goal from João Félix in the final stretch sentenced Bournemouth and sealed the first good result for the ‘blues’ with Frank Lampard on his bench, thereby adding 42 points in the middle of the table and scaring away ghosts.
