Frank De Boer calls Bergwijn off for not being fit

Netherlands coach Frank de Boer has called off Tottenham striker Steven Bergwijn for “not being fit enough,” the Royal Netherlands Football Association said in a statement today.

The attacker was sent back to England after failing a medical examination by the federation staff and will miss the next games of the 'oranje', including the friendly against Spain on Wednesday.

The recall confirms the bad moment of Bergwijn, who has not played a full game with Tottenham so far this season and has not been called up by José Mourinho in four of the last five meetings of the English club.

Bergwijn is the Dutch team's fourth casualty after goalkeepers Jasper Cillessen and Justin Bijlow fell off the list, both due to injury, and forward Mohamed Ihattaren due to illness.

De Boer is not going to ask for a replacement for Berwijn, so his final list of summoned is now made up of 24 players.

The Netherlands plays a friendly against Spain on November 11 at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam and two Nations League matches, on November 15 against Bosnia Herzegovina and on November 18 against Poland.
