Cartagena successfully paid off Lugo’s visit to Catago Nova this Friday with a solid win (2-0) that returned them to the path of victory to peek back into the ‘playoffs’ positions and further sink a team from Lugo that will continue one more day in the last position of the table after the opening match of day 33 of LaLiga SmartBank.

The team led by Luis Carrión, who came into the match after two consecutive defeats, demonstrated to his fans why he is one of the clear favorites to sneak into the top six positions. Although we had to wait until the second half, Poveda’s goal after finishing off a good ball from Jairo at will and Franchu’s goal at the end of the match after finishing a counterattack, were enough to subdue a Lugo who was not a rival.

The Galician team, which erred on caution, was not able to get anything positive out of a game in which it did not generate much. Íñigo Vélez’s men have not won since December and add a new setback in their increasingly complicated attempt to stay one more season in the Second Division.
