Carreño continues in the ointment but Andújar says goodbye

Pablo Carreño advanced with good feelings to get into the round of 16, which will play against the Slovak Norbert Gombos (105º), who defeated David Goffin 6-4, 7-6 (8). The Asturian eliminated Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6 (3) 6-2 in 1h: 20. The German held the first set, but Carreño gave no option in the tie-break, which he chained with a start break in the second and another to get 5-2 and serve.

Carreño is 15th in the Race to London, but with three tennis players ahead who will not play again this year. To go to the teachers' tournament and take the place away from Diego Schwartzman he should win in Paris (he's on the side of Nadal's box). Very complicated. “I am going to try to compete every game … I come from irregular weeks, mentally with ups and downs. And I want to finish the year as it deserves,” he warns.

Andújar fell

Pablo Andújar could not access the second round of the 1,000 Masters in Paris. The tennis player from Cuenca fell in his debut in the tournament against the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka in three sets by 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2 after two hours and 16 minutes of the game.

The game became very expensive for Andújar in the first set after, In a set in which both tennis players were very solid with their serve, the Spanish broke the Japanese's serve in the twelfth game and closed the first set with his second set ball 7-5.

In fact Andújar continued with that streak in the second round, where he got 2-0 in favor after breaking Nishioka's serve, although the Japanese would recover the disadvantage in the next game. In the ninth Nishioka achieved a very valuable break that later consolidated with his serve to take the sleeve 6-4 and force the third and final set.

It was then that the Japanese put one more march as he started the set breaking Andújar's serve and left the match on track with another break in the fifth game to close the set and the match on the first occasion he had 6-2. Now the Japanese will seek a place in the round of 16 against the winner of the match between Adrian Mannarino and Dusan Lajovic.
