Braithwaite disassociates himself from FC Barcelona and signs for Espanyol

BARCELONA, 1 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Danish striker Martin Braithwaite has terminated his contract with FC Barcelona until the 2023-24 season and has signed for RCD Espanyol for three seasons, as announced by both clubs on their official websites.

“FC Barcelona and the player Martin Braithwaite have reached an agreement to release the contract that the player had with the club until the end of the 2023-24 season,” the Barça team said in a statement, highlighting their “commitment ” and “dedication” since he arrived from Leganés.

The Danish striker arrived at FC Barcelona during the 2020 winter market when he was playing for Leganés. In these two and a half seasons at the Camp Nou, the attacker has played 58 games. The 2020-21 academic year was the most regular campaign for Braithwaite, since in the past 2021-22 an injury to his left knee only allowed him to play five games as a culé.

The 58 games he played are divided into 44 in LaLiga Santander, where he has scored five goals and given two assists, six in the Champions League, with three more goals and one goal assist, six in the Copa del Rey, with two goals, and two in the Spanish Super Cup.


In total, he has scored 10 goals as a Barça player and has lifted a Copa del Rey, 2020/21, where he was the protagonist with a goal in extra time in the semi-finals against Sevilla at the Camp Nou so that the culé team qualified for the final.

Now, without changing cities, Braithwaite will continue to be linked to LaLiga Santander in the ranks of Espanyol with whom he signed until June 30, 2025. The striker underwent a medical examination this Thursday, the last day of the transfer market, and on Friday He will now join Diego Martínez’s team.
