Before Josh Dobbs, no NFL player had ever played back-to-back three-TD games over different teams.
Today, Dobbs put in an amazing showing. He was traded for the Vikings on Tuesday as well as led them to a dramatic comeback victory just five days later. Not many quarterbacks would have looked as at ease in a brand-new system.
Dobbs’s success makes you wonder why the Cardinals were ready to trade himself for such a small amount of money. The Vikings only gave up a sixth-round pick and a seventh-round pick in exchange for Dobbs.
It’s possible that the Cardinals planned to move Dobbs because they wanted to lose as much as possible this season and his play made it too hard for them to do so.
Still, if the Cardinals had been willing to trade Dobbs, another team should have made an offer greater than what the Vikings made. There are a lot of NFL teams that don’t have a good backup quarterback.
Dobbs is a good backup quarterback that teams can win with. This season, a team that loses because of its backup quarterback will wish it traded for Dobbs.
In the first game of Week 9 in the NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Tennessee Titans after coming back from behind. Also, Dobbs has never been a quarterback who did what he did these last two weeks.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins played their first regular-season game within Frankfurt, Germany, on Sunday morning. The Chiefs got out to a 21-point edge and held on to win by seven points.
Later, quarterback Joshua Dobbs played his first game for the Vikings after rookie Jaren Hall was called out early.

“Josh is going to be our quarterback,” Titans Coach Mike Vrabel said on Monday. “I’ve talked with both quarterbacks as well as let them understand that Josh is going to be our quarterback over this week, while Malik [Willis] has to keep trying to prepare such as a starter.”
They can win a third straight AFC South title if they win on Saturday night. In the six games since Tennessee’s last win at Green Bay on November 17, Dobbs has been a different quarterback to start. If they win, they will have a home playoff game and end their losing streak.
Ryan Tannehill, an 11-year pro, was put on injured reserve, and Tennessee started Dobbs. Dobbs had just made his initial NFL start last Thursday night in a 27–13 loss to Dallas.
General Manager Jon Robinson, who quit on December 6, picked Willis in the third round of the 2005 NFL draft.
By halftime of his first game with the Titans, the six-year pro had thrown for more yards than Willis had in any of his three starts while eight appearances.
Dobbs ended with 232 passing yards, which is almost as many as Willis had all season (276). Willis has just one touchdown, which came from a run. He has been picked off three times.
It was clear that Vrabel liked Dobbs’ work ethic; he said that the QB had been working hard for the past few days.
This is when the Titans are able to observe the amount that Dobbs can take in, with a focus on plays in the red zone.
He is in better shape now because he is a degree in aeronautical engineering and worked for two years at NASA’s Jfk Space Flight Center because of an NFLPA program.
Pittsburgh picked Dobbs in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. He has now played in seven games. He played in six games for the Steelers in 2018 along with one game in 2020.
After Nick Foles broke his collarbone, the Jaguars traded for him to help cover Gardner Minshew. He spent all of 2019 with the Jaguars.
The new starter for the Titans will get a full week of practice, instead of just one game to prepare for when he signed as a backup four days before their Tennessee debut. After that, Dobbs had a week to get ready for his first NFL game.
“There’ll be a few things that the team will try to add, perhaps things that we practiced the previous week that that we didn’t run,” Vrabel stated. “Well, I think that it’s just going to have been good for a full week.”
The first game among these two teams was on December 11, and the Jaguars (8-8) won 36–22 in Nashville thanks to four mistakes that led to 20 points. Tannehill started that game.
Derrick Henry and six other players for the Titans were not used against Dallas. Based on how the Titans play, Vrabel said that might help.
