Barça clings to the Chilean way to be champion

The possibility of Barcelona being the league champion without contesting the remaining eleven days is one of those handled in the suspended championship scenario in which Spanish football is currently located. Although LaLiga and the soccer players are in favor of playing what remains, the tremendous problems of the calendar can make it possible to find solutions of all kinds. One of them would be to conclude the League with the current classification as valid. In other words, Barcelona would be champion and Madrid second. A controversial ending, no doubt.

The reality is that this cabal has already occurred on other occasions. The closest occurred in the last national championship in Chile. Then, as a consequence of the serious social revolts that the country experienced at the end of last year, the decision was the same that would now favor Barcelona: to name the leader champion at the time of the cessation of the tournament. In that case it was the Catholic University, which entered the list of winners despite the fact that the calendar was not finalized.

That is, almost half. In addition, and above all, the advantage that Católica had over its pursuer, Colo-Colo, was 13 points, for the two that Barça has a margin with respect to Madrid.

The measure was controversial, in any case, because it also affected the teams classified for the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. Those who still had options to qualify and were not in access positions at that time, were ruled out. The federation also determined that there would be no declines. Measures that were put to the vote and that found the majority support of Chilean soccer. It would be necessary to see what would happen in Spain …
