Almería stumbles at La Romareda and gives Eibar a free pass

MADRID, 4 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Almería conceded a painful defeat this Friday in the match that opened matchday 30 of the SmartBank League after losing to Real Zaragoza (2-0) in a match where they deserved better luck, but which gave Eibar a free pass in the leadership of the silver category of Spanish football.

Rubi’s team started the match with the wrong foot when Dyego Sousa missed a penalty after 8 minutes. A minute later, Sadiq shot at the far post but the goal – with much suspense – was annulled by the VAR due to a previous offside. And in ’12, Francho Serrano in an unexpected move made it 1-0 for the hands.

His shot, which was originally a cross into the area, slipped out of the hands of Fernando Martínez, who saw the ball kiss the nets after passing under his legs. The Almería goalkeeper did not stop lamenting in the following minutes. However, the Andalusians did not give up their efforts to seek a draw despite the misfortunes.

On the verge of half an hour, Dyego Sousa ran into the crossbar on a great occasion in the heart of the area and Portillo finished off the side of the net just short of the break. In the second half, Almería lacked a break and the locals were able to hold on until they dealt the final blow in a corner that Alejandro Francés finished off with 12 minutes to go.

His shot was left without an owner and Iván Azón appeared there to push the goal and unleash the madness in La Romareda. The victory places Juan Ignacio Martínez’s team in eleventh position, four points from the playoff, while Almería could share second place if Valladolid beat Tenerife this Saturday.
