A fan of Espanyol was expelled from the match between the Barcelona team and Wolverhampton Wanderers, in the round of 16 of the Europa League, and is under arrest for alleged racist insults.

The 24-year-old fan will have made gestures and uttered racist insults to the Spanish Wolves player Adama Traor, according to the Wolverhampton police.

“We have arrested a 24-year-old man as a suspect of racist abuse during the match between Wolves and Espanyol,” said a spokesman for the West Midlands police.

The fan is in police custody. The local team won 4-0 in the first leg, a very tough defeat that the Blue and Whites will try to overcome next Thursday at Cornell.
