MADRID, 2 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) on Wednesday elected the Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah and the Norwegian Karsten Warholm, both Olympic champions at Tokyo 2020, as athletes of the year in the 2021 season.

Through a virtual ceremony, World Athletics gave its awards in a season back from competitions after the break that brought the coronavirus pandemic and especially the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Thompson-Herah shone with 100 Olympic titles, 200 and 4×100 in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Warholm arrived in the Japanese capital with the world record in the 400 meters hurdles and in the Olympic final he broke it again (45.96) to hang the gold in a historic final.
