The Werder Bremen has announced that his coach Markus beginning is under investigation by German authorities for allegedly using a false vaccination certificate against the coronavirus. The German Bundesliga 2 soccer club said Thursday night that it learned of the allegation that night and that Anfang denied any wrongdoing.

Bremen prosecutors confirmed to the DPA news agency on Friday that it was investigating the claim. “Like any other doubly vaccinated citizen, I received both my vaccinations at an official vaccination center and obtained the documents to prove it,” Anfang said in a club statement. “I am very hopeful that this matter will be cleared up soon.”

In Germany, proof of vaccination or recent recovery from a virus infection is needed to enter many restaurants or other public places.

Anfang took over as Bremen coach in June after the club was relegated from the Bundesliga after 40 years in the top flight. Bremen is eighth in the second division table and next Saturday they will play against Schalke.
