The Top-10 of the ATP and WTA rankings that will go to the US Open

There are less than two weeks left until the US Open begins in the New York 'bubble' on August 31st and little by little we are learning more details about the final list of participants that will attend the New York tournament. An edition of the US Open that will also be marked by great absences in both the men's and women's teams. Next we review which great rackets from the Top-10 of the ATP and WTA rankings will and will not be at the next US Open.

Djokovic leads seven Top-10 ATPs to go

Despite showing their reluctance at first due to the extreme measures that the tournament was going to adopt to guarantee the safety of the tennis players, Novak Djokovic will be the great attraction of the US Open men's team. He will be joined by seven other Top-10 tennis players: Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev (with whom Djokovic played in his controversial Adria Tour in which the Serbian tested positive for coronavirus), Russian Daniil Medvedev (current tournament runner-up), the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Italian Matteo Berrettini and the Belgian David Goffin.

Nadal, Federer and Monfils, the absences

In this way, only three players from the Top-10 of the ATP ranking will not be in New York to play the US Open. One of them will be the current champion, the Spanish Rafa Nadal, who announced that he would not attend the appointment for fear of the coronavirus pandemic and to better prepare for another of his great goals of the year, the conquest of Roland Garros. Less surprising is the discharge from Roger Federer, who said goodbye to the season after undergoing two operations on his right knee to return in condition in 2021. It will not be Gael monfils, which will focus on shining on the clay at Roland Garros.

Pliskova leads the women's expedition at the US Open

In the women's draw, the number 3 in the world, Czech Karolina Pliskova, will start as the main seed to conquer the tournament. Along with Pliskova, other Top-10 tennis players who will be at the US Open will be the Americans Sofia Kenin, champion of the Australian Open 2020, and Serena Williams, she will be looking for her 24th Grand Slam to match Margaret Court after losing the last two finals. The Japanese Naomi Osaka will also attend, champion of the tournament in 2018.

Barty and Halep lead the absences

Pliskova will be the main favorite for the title in the women's draw after the absences of Ashleigh Barty and Simona Halep, number 1 and 2 of the WTA ranking respectively, for fear of the coronavirus pandemic. For the same reason The Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the Dutch Kiki Bertens and the Swiss Belinda Bencic will not attend the tournament. The reigning champion of the tournament, Canadian Bianca Andreescu, will not attend either., who preferred to give up the tournament to recover from the knee injury that has been dragging on since the end of last year.
