The marathons of Palma, Cyprus, Palermo and Thessaloniki join together to create the ‘Mediterranean Marathon League’

The Palma marathon has joined those of Cyprus, Palermo (Italy) and Thessaloniki (Greece) to create the ‘Mediterranean Marathon League’, a league that will start on March 3, 2024 and that combines these four events that have in common their international character, their location on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and that they are all members of the International Association of Marathons (AIMS).

The four directors of these marathons signed this Friday at the Palma City Council the founding agreement on the eve of the Palma Marathon Mallorca that will be held this Sunday and which determines that the male and female winners of each event will automatically win the number and accommodation to compete that same year or the following year in another of those that make up the league.

The ‘Mediterranean Marathon League’ will start on March 3 with the Cyprus marathon, which will be held in the coastal town of Paphos, following the line of the promenade over the waters of the Mediterranean, while its second event will be the Alexander the Great Marathon in Thessaloniki, which covers the route between Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia, and Thessaloniki, and will be held on April 21.

The third event will be in October with the Palma Marathon in Mallorca, which this coming Sunday will bring together 7,000 runners between its 9 kilometer tests, half marathon and the queen distance of 42.195 meters, and this first edition of the ‘Mediterranean Marathon League’ The Palermo Marathon will close it in mid-November.
