The King and Pedro Sánchez receive Thomas Bach

This Thursday, King Felipe and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, received the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, in audiences held at the Palacio de la Zarzuela and La Moncloa.

Thomas Bach was accompanied by the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, and the Spanish members of the highest Olympic body Juan Antonio Samaranch, Marisol Casado and Pau Gasol, and the adviser to the IOC president, Pere Miró.

This reception took place on the occasion of the visit to Spain of the president of the IOC together with the Executive Committee of the Olympic Refuge Foundation to visit the Alejandro Blanco Sports Center, the first sports center for refugees in the world, and to sign a memorandum of understanding with the COE and the Ministry of Integration, Social Security and Migration.

Said agreement, signed this Wednesday at the COE, establishes a collaboration framework between the IOC, the IOC and the Spanish ministry to create attitudes and spaces that reinforce participation in sport in the international protection reception system.

Thanks to this agreement, the Alejandro Blanco sports center, created at the initiative of the COE in Getafe (Madrid), will serve as a model to create similar facilities in other parts of the world. The Olympic leaders visited the sports facilities this Wednesday.


Likewise, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has met in La Moncloa with Thomas Bach, the President of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, and the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta. This meeting was also attended by the Secretary of State for Sport, José Manuel Franco, as well as Pere Miró, Juan Antonio Samaranch, Marisol Casado and Pau Gasol.

The President of the IOC took advantage of the reception to present the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, with the President Trophy of the International Olympic Committee, which Alejandro Blanco also received on Wednesday during the signing of the memorandum of understanding.
