The eldest children of Fernández Tapias attend the funeral in the middle of the war with the widow: “It was our duty to be here”

Family meeting in the Jerónimos church, where Father Ángel officiated this Monday at the funeral in memory of the businessman Fernando Fernández Tapias. After the discomfort experienced between the widow, Nuria Gonzalez, and the magnate’s eldest children at the funeral home, their attendance today was unknown. They had not been invited but they did not want to miss this last tribute to his father: “It was our duty to be here”They have said.

Fernando, Borja, Iñigo (the three are the result of the businessman’s first marriage with Chiqui Riva de Luna) and Juan Carlos and Sandra (from his second marriage with Juana García-Courel) have arrived at the church accompanied by their children, grandchildren of Fernández Tapias, and have entered through the back door to avoid the media commotion. The widow, Nuria González, has captured all eyes at the main entrance along with her children, Ivan and Alma.

As we said, Tapias’ older children have not been invited to the funeral organized by the widow (they found out from the press) but they have not been banned either. Nuria González’s entourage assures that they did not want a spectacle like the one at the funeral home and that everyone would be welcome. Another thing is that they haven’t even greeted each other.

The tension between them reached a climax last Friday, when the five brothers sent a blunt statement to clarify, among other things, that the problems arose before they filed a lawsuit to legally incapacitate their father: “Before began the incapacitation procedure, specifically since October 2019 and until the date of the death of Mr. Fernando Fernández-Tapias Román, the face-to-face contact of Mr. Fernando with the Fernández-Tapias Brothers and with their children, the 8 grandchildren of Mr. Fernando, who have been denied access to their place of residence despite their family’s repeated attempts to see their father and grandfather.”
