MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish delegation present at the Mediterranean Games that are taking place in the Algerian town of Oran added five more medals this Tuesday, one silver and three bronze, thanks to swimming and fencing.

In this way, in the absence of the celebration of the last day of competition, Spain already accumulates a total of 64 metals, 14 gold and 25 both silver and bronze, which keep it in fifth position in the general medal table.

The pool was the sport that contributed the most medals on this day in which the gold metals resisted. Marina García took the silver in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:27.32, while Luis Domínguez and Carmen Weiler took bronze in the 200-meter freestyle (1:48.33) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:01.98), respectively.

Fencing also brought success where Carlos Llavador from Madrid got into the fight for gold in the individual foil modality, but there he could not beat Serbian Veljko Cuk, who clearly won 15-9.

For her part, María Teresa Díaz could not go so far in the women’s competition and the French Patru closed her way to the final 15-9 in the semifinals and had to settle for a valuable bronze medal.
