Superliga: This will be the new competition format

The Super league European is already underway. The 12 founding clubs (Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Barça, Atlético de Madrid, Juventus, Milan and Inter Milan) issued a joint statement late this Sunday announcing the creation of a competition that will actually have a total of 20 participants.

European Super League | Format

Of the 20, a total of 15 will be fixed (for which the approval of 3 is yet to come) while 5 will earn the right to play the Super League for the performance achieved in other competitions.

The competition format involves dividing them into two groups of 10, in an ‘all against all’, with round-trip matches that will lead to a total of 18 days. They will always be played during the week, making it easier for participants to continue playing their domestic leagues.

From the 1st to the 3rd classified of each group will go directly to the quarterfinals, and the two remaining places for said round will be contested in a ‘Playoff’ those who finish as 4th and 5th of each group.

From there, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be a round trip and the grand final will be a single match.

As for the duration of the competition, it will start in August and end in May. Regarding the season in which it is scheduled to start, the statement expresses the wish that it be as soon as possible but without specifying a specific date.
