Oblak has bad days too

In Atlético in recent years it has been possible to discuss week by week if the team played well or badly, if it deserved more or less and the performance of many players, but there were a certainty that became more evident especially in the bad times: there is Oblak. The list of matches saved by the Slovenian is very long, but (very) from time to time he remembers that he is a human. Against Real Sociedad, the goalkeeper did not have a good night.

Accustomed to Oblak’s frequent miracles, the team was particularly hurt by the fragility of their goalkeeper. On the first visiting arrival, Isak served Sorloth and The Slovenian hesitated so much at the start that he didn’t even cover the Norwegian’s shot. It was not an easy play for the goal, but he gave up early. After the break, when Atleti stepped forward in search of 1-1, Isak nailed a free kick from 25 meters. The Swede kicked inside, neither too hard nor too tight, and the ball went through Oblak’s post after bouncing. In addition to those shots, he made two other stops.

Fortunately for Atlético, yesterday it’s more accident than trend. Nobody disputes Oblak in the slightest, who from the inside looks like the best goalkeeper on the planet for years. The team is conceding more goals than expected (eight in the League and four in the Champions League), but except for this Sunday in the Metropolitan Wanda practically Nothing can be reproached to Oblak. Goalkeeper of reflexes, of getting bigger in one on one, of some doubts in the balls hanging in the area … but really reliable.

For this reason, inside everyone is convinced that the usual miracles will come from Oblak. He’s a club legend third foreigner with the most matches in the history of rojiblanca, the second captain and a key piece of the present and the future. Just as efforts were made in the past to hold him in the template, they are already working on a renovation according to their conditions to extend the contract that links him with Atleti until 2023.
