Martinez advances; Arruabarrena, Robredo and Taberner say goodbye

Pedro Martínez is one step away from playing the final draw at Roland Garros. The Valencian prevailed Dutch Robin Haase for a double 6-4 and this Thursday he will fight for one of the places in the final table of the tournament.

Martínez was very firm on serve (76% with his first service despite committing six double faults) and also at the net in addition to being very effective when dealing with break balls, since he made four breaks to Haase and saved as many break balls. The Valencian will now play the decisive match to enter the final table against the American Ulises Blanch, who got rid of Italian Gian Marco Moroni by 7-6 (8), 4-6 and 6-3.

Worse luck had Tommy Robredo who fell to Taiwanese Jason Jung 6-4 and 6-3. Despite saving nine of the 14 break points he had against, Robredo was outmatched by the Taiwanese, who did take advantage of the other five break points he had to win the match. The same happened to Carlos Taberner, who was eliminated from the previous phase at the hands of Argentine Leonardo Mayer. The Spaniard gave up his service on numerous occasions and his rival, who hit up to 6 aces, gave Taberner few options to seal the match 6-3 double. And there the bad news did not end for our team, since the men's team also lost in the previous Mario Vilella, eliminated by Colombian Daniel Galán: 7-6 and 6-0.

As for the Spanish representation in the women's team, it should be noted that Lara Arruabarrena, from Gipuzkoa, will not be in the final round either, who lost to Serbian Ivana Jorovic 6-4, 6-3. The Spanish did not manage to materialize six of the eight breaks she had against Jorovic, who was intractable with 25 winning shots that gave her a pass to the next round.
