Marta Torrejón, the essential of a team of stars

Alexia Putellas, Graham Hansen, Jenni Hermoso, Aitana Bonmatí, Irene Paredes, Lieke Martens … Not one of the many stars of this almighty Barça has played as much this season as Marta Torrejón (Mataró, 1990). The right side has been the only essential in an outstanding season for the Blaugrana team with a total of 3.547 minutes disputed.

Behind are the 3,118 from Alexia, 2,938 from Paños, 2,845 from Patri Guijarro, 2,843 from Mapi, 2,805 from Paredes or 2,765 by Aitana, always speaking in club terms. Because Torrejón left the Spanish National Team in 2019while the rest of the players mentioned also accumulate minutes in their legs with La Roja this campaign, which will end the dispute of the European Championship in England next July.

And it is that the one from Mataró decided to dedicate himself exclusively to Barça these three years and his performance he’s being splendid. In a position as demanding as that of full-back, with constant ups and downs, Torrejón is practically untouchable: he has played 29 games in 30 league days (with 27 titles), 11 of Champions (start nine), the four from the Copa de la Reina and the two from the Spanish Super Cup (headline in all six).

With the total trust of Jonatan Giráldez and the Blaugrana coaching staff, the winger signed his contract extension until 2024 last March. At 32 years old, Torrejón has already written his name in the history of the Barça, a club he joined in 2013 from Espanyol. In its winners as culé are 5 Leagues, six Queen’s Cups, two Spanish Super Cups and one Champions.
