Marcao, new Sevilla player

Sevilla and the Turkish Galatasaray have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the Brazilian central defender Marcos do Nascimento Teixeira, ‘Marcao’, to the Andalusian club, with whom he will sign a contract until June 2027, at the expense of exceeding the mandatory recognition medical.

Sevilla announced this operation this Friday, which represents the first signing of the sevillistas for the next campaign, and, although as usual, did not offer figures, it has emerged through different media that it will pay 12 million euros to the Istanbul club, plus others 3 in variables, for the signing of Marcao.

The Spanish club specified that Marcao, who has just turned 26 and will replace his compatriot Diego Carlos Santos, transferred to English club Aston Villa, is expected to join the concentration of his new team in Seoul this weekend , where the Sevilla expedition arrived this Friday and will begin work on Saturday.

Born in Londrina, in the state of Paraná, the new Sevilla defender trained at Atlético Paranaense and, after a short loan to Avaí, with whom he made his professional debut, he returned to his home club to play five games and score a goal in the championship of said Brazilian state.

Without a place in the first team, he was succeeded consecutively by Guaratinguetá and the Ferroviaria of his country to return in May 2016 to Atlético Paranaense, with whom he played 18 games between the national and district tournaments and in which he scored a goal.

In June 2017 he joined Atlético Goianense, again on loan, although a month later he made the leap to the Portuguese Rio Ave, where he arrived on loan with a purchase option for the 2017-18 season.

In the Portuguese League he found regularity and with Rio Ave he played 20 league games, one in the Portuguese Cup and four in the League Cup, until in the summer of 2018 he was transferred to GD Chaves, also in the highest category. lusa and with him he played all the official minutes -24 games and three goals- of the first half of the year.

In the winter market of said campaign, Galatasaray took over the services of Marcao, who played in the second half of the 2018-19 season in 15 matches in the Turkish League, four in the Cup and two in the Europa League, and won in its premiere in Turkey the league title and the cup tournament.

That same summer he also won the Super Cup in a match against Akishar, this being the last title of his record to date, and in the 2019-20 financial year he played another 28 league games and four in the Turkish Cup, in addition to debut in the Champions League, with 6 games in the group stage against Real Madrid, PSG and Bruges.

Marcao, a 1.85-meter-tall left-handed central defender who stands out for his strength and good ball movement, established himself as a bastion of Galatasaray’s defense in the last two seasons, with 37 and 26 league games played, respectively, three from the Cup, three from the Europa League and 9 from the last Champions League.
