Jon Rahm tastes victory again with the Mexico Open

Adri Arnaus achieved his first victory in the DP World Tour in Girona

MADRID, 2 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish golfer Jon Rahm conquered the Mexico Open this Sunday, his seventh title on the PGA Tour and his first victory in 2022, after four days at the top of the classification and a last day in which he withstood the attack of the Americans Brandon Wu and Toni Finau, seconds to two hits.

Rahm, current US Open champion, once again savored victory in 2022 that had taken away part of the great sensations that he came to amass as number one in the world. The now number two imposed favoritism on him in the new PGA tournament in Vallarta and won again as he had not done since his first ‘major’ last year.

The Basque took the reins of the Mexican tournament on the first day, with an unrivaled card of 64 strokes, and continued to fall below par each day until -2 this Sunday, -18 in total. Brandon Wu and Finau, with -8 on the final day, did not give rise to the relaxation of a Rahm who was not nervous either, with par in the last holes.

In addition, on Spanish soil, the Barcelonan Adri Arnaus won the Catalunya Championship 2022 this Sunday, in a heart-stopping tiebreaker with the South African Oliver Bekker, to celebrate his first victory on the DP World Tour, in his 84th tournament. After five second places, Arnaus achieved his long-awaited victory, albeit in a six-hole play-off, without committing a bogey on Sunday.

The Catalan began the final day seven shots behind the leaders and came back 15 positions to give himself the chance of victory at the PGA Catalunya Golf de Girona. Bekker held at least up to force that tiebreaker, also looking to make his debut. Arnaus’s is the second consecutive Spanish victory in the DP World Tour, after Pablo Larrazábal’s last week in the ISPS Handa Championship.
